Minister for Gozo, Clint Camilleri, has inaugurated the restoration work, at a cost of around €12,000, carried out in recent months by Guzeppi Muscat on the 18th century mechanism of the famous Citadel clock, work was also done on the tower of St Michael’s Bastion, where the clock is situated.

The work started in January, and was entrusted to C. Schembri Watchmakers, of Victoria, Gozo.

The Minister explained that this inauguration was not only to commemorate the restoration work completed by Guzeppi Muscat, who is the only Master of this trade left in the Maltese islands, but also to show appreciation towards the workers for their continued dedication.Director for Cultural Heritage within the Ministry for Gozo, John Xuereb, said that since its establishment the Directorate has drawn up restoration programmes and projects with the aim of not only preserving what our forefathers left us, but continuing to build and improve upon it.

The Minister for Gozo, concluded by encouraging the workers to continue their hard work, while thanking the Directorate for Cultural Heritage and all those who contributed to this restoration.
