My friends have been asking me, what does this sign mean which is painted on the asphalt in Xaghra Gozo.

XA is of course Xaghra, number is a number, but the symbol I could not answer for. I asked the Council but I do not believe I will get an answer soon if ever.

Does anybody know what it means?

Someone told me it was to do with drones and were “markers” for them to use when recording their directions.

They are MEPA signs as a spot marks for drones .

Thank you for your comments. I was given this clear explanation and I thank the sender for it: they are actually survey markings used by the PA or another authority.

These markings are important for the photos to be taken from high up by the drone so that the details in each photo are set through gps etc…. but in a nutshell, they are used for surveys.

I would like to thank Xaghra Council for its prompt reply. Very efficient thank you. They sent an email the first working day which is today Monday. I should not have doubted them. Sorry. And thank you. Appreciate it.

In Malta its a marking for the drone and in other countries it means Toxic Area.
