The Maltese Episcopal Conference welcomed the new Bishop of the Diocese of Gozo, Mons. Anton Teuma, at a meeting held on Tuesday at the Archbishop’s Curia, Floriana.
During the meeting a letter was read from Bishop Emeritus Mons. Mario Grech, in which he expressed his appreciation for the fraternal work within the Conference.
The Bishops thanked Bishop Grech for the important and valuable contribution which he gave during these 15 years while promising him their prayers in the new mission in the Vatican as Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops.
The Maltese Episcopal Conference is made up of the bishops of the two dioceses: Archbishop Mons. Charles Jude Scicluna, who is the President of the Conference, the Bishop of Gozo Mons. Anton Teuma and the Auxiliary Bishop Mons. Joseph Galea-Curmi. Also attending is Father Michael Bugeja SJ, President of the Council of Religious Major Superiors of Malta (KSMR).
The Archdiocese said that the Episcopal Conference meets regularly and makes decisions on common matters for both dioceses “and reflects on ongoing challenges and opportunities for the Maltese people in general so that the bishops can make their contribution in the light of the gospel.”
The Maltese Episcopal Conference also forms part of the Council of European Episcopal Conferences (CCEE) as well as the Commission of Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (ComECE).
