“Gozitans are concerned about the failure of the Government and in particular of the Minister for Education Owen Bonnici and the Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri to address problems created by the Covid-19 on the education sector.”
This was said in a statement on Friday by Opposition spokesperson for Education Clyde Pulli and Chris Said, the Opposition spokesperson for Gozo and Constitutional Reforms.
They went on to say that, “it seems to be a concern among many Gozitan teachers and Learning Support Educators (LSEs) who work in Malta and who cross daily between the two islands in order to go to work.”
“This journey is not only on the ferry, but also on mini-buses, which today have become the most convenient means of travel in Malta for these workers,” the PN said.
Covid-19 will lead to further stresses for these workers, the PN said, which the Government needs to address. “Among these, are the risks of infection from Covid-19 when travelling in the confines of a mini with others, on what can be a lengthy journey.”
The PN highlighted the fact that there is also the fact that many operators appear to be reducing the number of passengers they are willing to carry in vehicles, but the price per journey remains the same as before Covid-19.
“Therefore each passenger will have to pay more, because the price is shared among fewer people,” it said.
So, as far as it is possible, Gozitans should be given the opportunity to take part in courses online, the PN said.
The PN explained that, “such facilities have been available in Gozo since before Covid-19, allowing Gozitan students to pursue their studies and at the same time not have the burden of having to travel to and / or physically live in Malta, with all the consequences that this entails including extra costs in renting apartments and time wasted travelling.”
The PN concluded by saying that it calls on the Labour Government and in particular Owen Bonnici and Clint Camilleri, who are the Ministers concerned, to make the necessary consultations immediately and provide the adequate solutions that Gozitans are expecting from them.

One big failure after another for not investing enough in Gozo to create jobs. If Gozitans can find a job in Gozo they dont need to go to Malta everyday. That it self will save them money and will have much less pollution. Our ministers are there for show only .
