For.U.M has called on the Government to intervene in the case of Gozitan employees working in Malta, “who will be facing increased hardship when commuting,” it said.

In a statement, Forum Unions Maltin said that, “the increase in the number of commutants between Gozo and Malta in the coming weeks will stretch the Gozo Channel ferry schedule to the limit and possibly cause delays in commutations.”

It stressed that the capacity of the ferries with the current Covid-19 measures and schedules of trips means that “almost half of Gozitan workers will not catch the scheduled ferry, and have to wait for the next one.”

“This will mean increased hardship on Gozitan employees who commute daily between the islands,” it said.

Forum Unions Maltin therefore called on the Government to intervene to address the situation.

It concluded by saying, “Gozitan employees already face the hardship of daily commuting and certainly cannot face increased hardship in the coming weeks.”
