More high numbers reported today, with 95 new Covid-19 cases recorded in the past 24-hours. There have been 22 recoveries, health authorities said, with today’s cases “still being investigated.”
From yesterday’s 100 cases, authorities said that 31 were family members of previously known cases, 5 were direct contacts of previously known cases, 9 were contacts of positive work colleagues and 2 were from social gatherings with other positive cases. Details were not given for the other outstanding 53 cases.
Social media is full of stories of people without masks, bars and restaurants packed across Gozo and Malta, nobody adhering to the rule of 10 in a group, with many lamenting the lack of enforcement on any of the directives.
MUMN President Paul Pace, writing on facebook this morning stated – “my question to the Government is how many more people have to die before there is any enforcement…in the meantime ITU is full up with extra areas being added to ITU.”
There are now 768 active cases, making it 3,776 cases in total, 2,967 have recovered and there have been 41 deaths, the Ministry said. There were 2,529 swab tests taken, with 280,155 having been taken since the start.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control – is showing for Malta that the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000, is 152.4 with the number of cases showing as 3,681 and 41 deaths. Malta is now in eleventh position in the EU/EEA and UK. Czechia is at the top with 432.7
Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.
All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.
