The reconstruction of Triq Sant’Antnin, in Ghajnsielem, through an investment of €2 million, has been inaugurated today by Prime Minister Robert Abela and the Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri.

“Not only will it be a high quality road, but a project that will improve the lives of the surrounding residents,” the Prime Minister said.

The project on this arterial road that connects the Port of Mgarr with Qala and Ghajnsielem, was spread over an area of 800 metres.

The work involved not only the remediation of the road surface, but the reconstruction of this artery with work related to new services such as communication networks, new water services, sewage and electricity and importantly, culverts to deal with the floodwater which accumulates from Ghajnsielem, Nadur and Qala following heavy rains.

There was also the construction of new pavements and retaining walls to reinforce the road, the construction of rubble walls, as well as two layers of asphalt on the road.

In a news conference, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that “Gozo was, is, and will remain a priority for this government.”

The Prime Minister stated that the work on Gozitan roads is keeping pace with the work being done in Malta, where in recent years the field of infrastructure has been given a big boost.

Minister for Gozo, Clint Camilleri, said that, “with each passing day we are continuing to improve the infrastructure around Gozo and as promised we are working tirelessly to stick to the deadline and complete projects in the shortest possible time and with the least inconvenience to residents.”

Work is also progressing well in Triq l-Imgarr, Nadur, he said, which will be one of the largest infrastructure projects in Gozo with the reconstruction of another main artery.

The Gozo Minister concluded by thanking the people for their cooperation, as well as all the workforce.
