The Malta Union of Teachers has welcomed news that piling construction work with heavy machinery adjacent to the boundary walls at the Victoria Middle School in Gozo has been stopped during school hours.
The MUT said in a statement that as from today the work will start taking place after school hours.
Last Thursday, the Union had threatened the Government with industrial action from today unless the construction work was stopped during school hours.
It had said that the school is “sandwiched between two massive construction projects,” which it said, is “leading to serious health and safety shortcomings and to unbearable noise from the sports complex project.”
The MUT has now said that it is suspending the directive and will continue to discuss with the Ministry for Gozo and the Ministry for Education and Employment the way forward regarding the works from this week onwards to avoid as much as possible inconvenience to educators and students.
