110 new Covid-19 cases and 161 recoveries, active cases now at 2,097There were 110 new Covid-19 cases recorded in the past 24-hours, and with 161 recoveries, making the number of active cases at 2,097. Only 2,345 swabs were taken over this period. The Health Authorities said that today’s cases are “still being investigated.”

From yesterday’s 103 cases; 26 were family members of previously known cases, 9 were contacts of positive work colleagues, 4 were from direct contact with other positive cases and 2 cases were from social gatherings with other positive cases. Details were not given for the other outstanding 62 sporadic cases.

The total number of cases are now up to 8,247 There have been 6,049 recoveries and now 101 deaths, the Ministry said. There have been 388,663 swab tests taken since the start of the pandemic in Malta.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, has not as yet updated its figures today and is showing that the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000, is 351.5 with the number of cases recorded at 7,917, and the number of deaths showing as 95. The number of cases and deaths for Malta have remained unchanged for the last two days. Malta is currently in 21st position in the EU/EEA and UK. Luxembourg is at the top with 1264.4, followed by Liechtenstein with 1130.9.

Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.

All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.
