25 band clubs, including 2 from Gozo, have benefited from €165,000 in funds from the Malta Arts Council.
The announcement was made by Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government José Herrera, who stated that this fund is directly assisting band clubs. He explained that this was a particular year for band clubs due to the pandemic and thus these funds will certainly be very helpful.
The Band Clubs in Gozo who will benefit from the funds are the Socket Filarmonika Santa Marija of Zebbug and the Socket Muzikali Santa Margerita of Sannat.
Minister Herrera, whilst thanking the National Band Club Association for the important work they are carrying out, reiterated his commitment that for the coming years these funds will be available to associations linked to the traditional Maltese feast.
This fund started in 2013 in order to help artists and associations representing this important cultural sector. He stated that in total they received 33 applications amounting to €600,000, explained Albert Marshall, Chairperson of the Malta Arts Council.
Dr Noel Camilleri, President of the National Band Club Association, stated that this fund was created specifically to assist band societies as they play an important role in our country’s culture.
The official results have been published on the official website of the Arts Council Malta.
