140 new Covid-19 cases and 117 recoveries, active cases now at 2,155A 140 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the past 24-hours, and with 117 recoveries, making the number of active cases at 2,155. 3,093 swabs were taken over this period. The Health Authorities said that today’s cases are “still being investigated.”

From yesterday’s 173 cases; 22 were family members of previously known cases, 18 were contacts of positive work colleagues and 14 were from direct contact with other positive cases. Details were not given for the other outstanding 119 sporadic cases.

The total number of cases are now up to 8,560. There have been 6,301 recoveries and now 104 deaths, the Ministry said. There have been 39,5,136 swab tests taken since the start of the pandemic in Malta.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, has not as yet updated its figures today and is showing that the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 for Malta, is 352.7 with the number of cases recorded at 8,247, and the number of deaths showing as 101. Malta is currently in 21st position in the EU/EEA and UK. Luxembourg is at the top with 1241.6, followed by Austria with 1069.5

Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.

All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.
