The Nationalist Party in a statement, said that it has noted the “despair” shown by the Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri in Parliament over the land issue in Nadur.

In a joint statement by Chris Said, Kevin Cutajar and Joseph Ellis, they explained that these lands were registered in the Land Register in the name of a particular Foundation, although they are owned by Nadurin citizens and have been so for many years.

According to the PN, the “Minister’s desperation seems to be caused by the total disinterest that his peers in the same Government have shown and are still showing in solving this problem.”

“So much so that this situation had to be brought up in Parliament by Minister Camilleri in order that perhaps someone would listen and suggest a solution,” the PN added.

The PN remarked that “Minister Camilleri’s desperation will not solve anything. First and foremost he and the Government of which he is a part, should have been more careful not to allow a situation like that in Nadur to develop.”

The statement went on to say that “the fact that the Authorities allowed this situation to be created, is nothing but a demonstration of the incompetence of the Government, particularly in Gozo.”

“Gozitans and particularly the Nadurin citizens affected by the problem, want to see serious guidance and know what to do to find a solution as they rightly expect,” the PN said.

“This is not only not happening, but even the exponents of the Government seem that they have their backs to the wall and the only outlet they are seeing is to suggest that those people affected take legal steps, with the costs and headaches completely afflicting the latter,” the PN said.

The statement pointed out that “from what Camilleri stated in Parliament, it is clear that there is sufficient reason for the Land Registrar to exercise his powers in accordance with the law and to reject the applications for registration of the land in question.”

“Thus, the families affected could have relief from the constant stress. However, neither the Government, the Land Registry or Minister Camilleri have given any explanation as to why this did not happen,” the PN said.

The PN concluded by saying that on this land issue in Nadur, the institutions of our country under a Labour Government, unlike past Nationalist Governments, “have once again failed and are failing to protect the interests of Gozitans.”
