80 new Covid-19 cases and 177 recoveries, now 2,060 active cases80 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the past 24-hours, and with 177 recoveries, making the number of active cases at 2,060. However, only 2,192 swabs were taken over this period, around 1000 less than usual. The Health Authorities said that today’s cases are “still being investigated.”

From yesterday’s 102 cases; 25 were family members of previously known cases, 3 were contacts of positive work colleagues and 10 were from direct contact with other positive cases. Details were not given for the other outstanding 64 sporadic cases.

This takes the total number of cases up to 9,004. There have been 6,831 recoveries and now 113 deaths, the Ministry said. 407,317 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic in Malta.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, still has no updated figures for Malta, making the third day as such, and is showing that the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 for Malta, is 308.2 with the number of cases recorded still at 8,560, and the number of deaths showing as 104. Malta is currently in 23rd position in the EU/EEA and UK. Luxembourg is at the top with 1279.0, followed by Austria with 1056.8.

Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.

All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.
