Minister for Education Justyne Caruana, has paid a courtesy visit to the Rector of the University of Malta.

She described the meeting with the Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella as, “very productive,” during which the discussion touched on various topics, University plans and also projects for the future.

Dr Caruana said in a statement, that this is the first in a series of meetings that she will hold with educational institutions “to continue to improve and strengthen this very important sector for our children.”

At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Vella congratulated Minister Caruana on her appointment as Minister and said he is “convinced that there will be excellent collaboration between the two sides.”

During the meeting, an account was given of the ongoing work at the University, projects being worked on, both academic and infrastructural, and the work of the University in Gozo through the University Centre located in Xewkija.

The University of Malta is constantly improving its position in the international rankings year after year, and also has various agreements with other European universities through which the students of the University of Malta benefit, the Rector said.

The University is currently focusing extensively on upgrading its infrastructure to meet the growing needs of the students enrolled in the 14 faculties, 18 institutes, 13 centres and 3 schools that it has within it.

During the meeting they discussed discussed the performance of the University at this particular time due to the pandemic and how the University implemented measures and also took steps to keep the university lectures going and at the same time protect both students and all staff.

Minister Caruana was accompanied on the visit by the Permanent Secretary in the Education Ministry Dr Frank Fabri.
