Minister for Education Justyne Caruana has paid an official visit to the University of Malta’s Gozo Campus, where she met the staff and discussed the campus’ plans, projects and vision with the Rector’s Delegate for Gozo, Prof Louis F Cassar, during which details of the campus’ extension project were also given.
Dr Caruana stated, “I commend the University of Malta’s Gozo Campus’ determination to offer the best possible opportunities to all Gozitan students, not only by providing an increased complement of university courses to the general public, but also with its resolve to expand the campus’ infrastructure to cater for these students’ needs.”
Discussions also centred on an exercise to give the University title over to this property and a highly interesting air monitoring project by the Faculty of Geo Sciences.
Minister Caruana said that this institution has a great potential and shared the University’s ambition to bring together more academics, staff and students on the island of Gozo.
The Gozo Campus, formerly known as the University of Malta Gozo Centre, was set up to assist in the logistical aspects of degree and diploma courses offered in Gozo, as well as outreach in specialised sectors.
The Education Minister then made an official visit to the Xewkija Primary School, part of a series of visits to schools and educational institutions around the islands to get a direct insight of the excellent work being done by educators and LSEs to the benefit of all students.
Dr Caruana’s visit to the school coincided with its Virtual Open and Celebration Day, which was followed by a certificate giving ceremony that was being held at the school through MS Teams.
““I recommend these activities, during which parents and guardians of children can virtually access classes to see what our schools are offering as part of their children’s education,” said Minister Caruana.
Xewkija School Head Frankline Zammit Galea thanked Minister Caruana for the visit and also had the opportunity to discuss upcoming school projects and plans.
The Minister invited all staff and children to keep in contact and reiterated that one of her priorities in this sector is a continued discussion with all involved, including school children, to strengthen this very important sector to the benefit of all educators and students.
