Minister of Education Justyne Caruana, during a visit to Sannat Primary school and Special Unit, stated that, “all children have the right to an inclusive education. Although much remains to be done to achieve this goal, I enjoy seeing schools such as Sannat in Gozo, which is an example of what true inclusion in education means.”

Dr Caruana was continuing with the official visits to all the institutions and schools, when apart from Sannat, she also visited Ghajnsielem Primary and the Bishop’s Conservatory Primary and Secondary Schools.

At Sannat school, Minister Caruana was greeted by the Head of School Pauline Grech, who took her on a tour of the school and also explained the work that is currently going on, apart from teaching the curriculum.

The Minister of Education took the opportunity not only to see the students in class, but also to talk to the educators and LSEs about their work and needs.

Minister Caruana was able to see at first-hand the dedication shown to students at the Sannat School who have learning difficulties, helping to ensure they feel at the same level as other students.

“This is an example of what we want to achieve,” said Minister Caruana, “so that inclusive education and equity can really be put into practice because I firmly believe that this is fundamental right for every child and I will work hard to achieve it.”

At Ghajnsielem Primary School, Minister Caruana was welcomed by the Head of School Marianne Zammit. The Minister for Education toured the school and also spoke to the educators and LSEs present.

Students at the school are encouraged to take part in art education, and in cooperation with the Local Council, the school decorated its entrance with Christmas decorations.

Head of School Elton Vella welcomed Minister Justyne Caruana at the Bishop’s Conservatory Primary in Victoria. This school has four kindergarten classes and six primary classes.

The aim of the school is to help every child develop their full potential in a healthy atmosphere. Male students will be able to continue their studies at the Minor Seminary and female students will be able to continue their studies at the Bishop’s Conservatory Secondary.

Minister Caruana was presented with a brochure made by the students themselves, in which there is a promotion for health protocols – an initiative that she warmly welcomed.

The visit continued at the Bishop’s Conservatory Secondary School, where Head of School Christine Scerri welcomed Minister Caruana on a day called – Cosy Day, when students do not have to wear school uniforms. Through collaborative work the school said that its seeks to assist students not only in their academic studies but also help them in their personal formation as well.

In these two schools Minister Caruana also saw closely the work of the students, as well as the work of the educators and LSEs.

“I thank all those, in administration, educators and LSEs who are doing so much good in all schools in the country. It is in this sense of working and collaborating together that we will be able to move towards our ultimate goal, which is to give all students the opportunities, the learning, the education that will lead them to take their place in society, but also to make them better people in their respective communities,” said Dr Caruana.
