Oncology patients are to be given the Covid-19 vaccine before starting chemotherapy, the Health Ministry said today.

In a statement it said that as of Wednesday, oncology patients who are about to receive chemotherapy will be given the Covid-19 vaccine. “This is to protect these individuals from the virus before their immunity is weakened.”

This process will be organised by Mater Dei Hospital itself and it will be the patients’ advisers who will indicate when the vaccine will be given, according to a protocol established by the Health Authorities.

The Ministry said that oncology patients currently receiving chemotherapy will be given data later, by the same consultants, depending on the patient’s health status.
