Opposition Leader Bernard Grech has been in Gozo this weekend, where, prior to addressing a political activity in Nadur on Sunday, he met with Gozitan families, business owners and associations.
He said that, “with the commitment I have made since my appointment as Leader of the Nationalist Party, I want this Party to be close to the people while listening and talking to everyone.”
Speaking at Nadur on Sunday morning during an activity with the theme – A New Page for our Country – Grech said, ” I want a new page, even for Gozo.
He went on to say that the promise he made for a socio-economic study in Gozo has been kept and “a lot of work is being done with the aim that this report highlights what this island needs, both on the basis of work and also in relation to health, environmental planning and sustainable development.”
The Opposition Leader added that the PN believes in “a model for Gozo, not only in tourism, but so that it will introduce new markets where there will be work for young people.”
“Connectivity between Malta and Gozo has taken a turn for the worse under a Labour Government,” Grech said, “even in terms of the transport of goods between the two islands. ”
This is the fifth year since the government stopped the cargo service between Malta and Gozo without a worthy alternative, he said.
Bernard Grech went on to say that “one year ago, through the work of Nationalist Deputies Chris Said, Kevin Cutajar and the late Frederick Azzopardi – the Parliamentary Committee for Gozo was set up.”
This Committee, continued Bernard Grech, has now been left in chaos, as after appointing Justyne Caruana as Minister, the government has left the Committee without a Chairperson to lead it.
Have nothing against political activities but can’t understand the need of fireworks because a leader of a Party came to Gozo. If we are going to shoot at the skies everytime we want to announce an event then I give no credit to any socio-economic study done by the same people who use petards to announce their presence. Fireworks, like bells traditionally were a voice calling faithfull to celibrate, now facebook took over and there is no need to pollute Gozo sound.
