A scheme has been launched which offers financial assistance to carry out restoration and improvement projects at venues with the capacity to host MICE events in Gozo.

Launched by Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, he said that through this scheme the government is continuing to strengthen the capacities of Gozo and at the same time put the island on the map for another important tourism niche.

The Minister explained that this scheme incentivises projects that offer a seating capacity of at least 150 people. Because some projects may be more extensive than others, the beneficiary may apply with a phased project. The project must have suitable facilities to be accessible to all.

Director of Tourism and Economic Development within the Ministry for Gozo, Ronald Sultana, said that in the category of NGOs, a beneficiary can be awarded up to a maximum of €50,000 for year 2021. On the other hand, private entities are eligible for a maximum of €25,000 for the year 2021. In both categories the Ministry will be covering 50% of the costs.

Camilleri said that, “MICE is a concept that has encouraging potential if we as a government offer commitment and support so that this tourism niche evolves in a sustainable way in Gozo. I therefore urge those interested applicants to visit the Ministry’s website for more information. ”

Eligible are projects that have already started as well as those that are in the application stage with the Planning Authority when and if necessary. Projects involving only audiovisual improvements are also eligible. Completed projects are not eligible.
