The National Blood Transfusion Service has thanked everyone who donated blood at the Xewkija Clinic last Tuesday.

The Service reminded everyone that “blood donation is a safe process, and at the same time it is an essential service that cannot stop.”

With this in mind the Service continues to encourage Gozitans to please come forward and donate blood for the good of those patients who are in need, all blood types are needed.

Donations can be made at the Centre in Xewkija, on Sunday, the 14th of March from 8am to 1pm (last registration until 1pm).

The donation centre is located at the Xewkija Clinic, in Triq tall- Hamrija, between the Primary School and the Bocci Club.

The Service reminds everyone that it is important to always take your Identity Card, or Driving License or Maltese Passport and to drink plenty of water beforehand. Also, please encourage others to donate if possible.

Anyone currently waiting to take a Covid-19 test, or who has had the test and is waiting for the result, cannot give blood.

Anyone taking the Pfizer-BioNThec or Moderna vaccine must allow 7 days to elapse before donating blood, while those taking the AstraZeneca vaccine must leave 4 weeks.

A blood donor must allow 7 days to elapse before taking the Covid-19 vaccine.

The Service stressed that due to the Covid-19 situation all necessary measures are being taken to protect anyone who comes to donate blood, as well as the professionals who provide them with a service.
