Repubblika has expressed its solidarity with the fourteen mayors and various NGOs fighting against the destruction of Gozo.

In a statement, it argued that “these developers have no respect for present generations, much less for future generations. If this rape in our country is not stopped immediately, our children will be born and raised in a soulless country.”

The civil society movement said that at local level, “these mayors are setting an example of how politicians should behave at the national level.”

“Our country desperately needs its politicians to end their complicity in the destruction of our islands through their silence,” Repubblika said. “We expect this commitment to no longer remain on an individual level but to become a central part of party policy.”

“The Maltese and Gozitan people need that the political parties will tell them clearly and roundly from now on, what they will do in practical terms to stop this process of destruction of the environment and its historical heritage,” it said.

Repubblika stated that “the cursed collusion between greedy businessmen and dishonest politicians must stop once and for all.”
