Hutchinson Gozo, one of the main factories on the Xewkija industrial area in Gozo, is to invest €6 million in order to strengthen its operations, invest in more efficient machinery, reduce emissions and create new jobs.
This was announced during a visit to the factory by Prime Minister Robert Abela and Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Sustainable Development Miriam Dalli, to mark Worker’s Day.
Hutchinson Gozo currently operates in the automotive industry and in the near future it will be diversifying its production portfolio and entering the aviation industry.
Prime Minister Robert Abela said that this investment is a “living example of the government’s decisions not to close factories in the pandemic.”
Dr Abela stressed that “this government will stand side by side with every form of enterprise in order to continue to create wealth that reaches everyone and spreads to every corner of Malta.”
In the last six months, Hutchinson Gozo said that it has increased its staff by 50 people, with the goal of reaching 300 workers in the coming years.
Minister Miriam Dalli emphasised the importance of Gozitan and Maltese businesses and companies continuing to work to attract investment.
According to Jason Borg, Plant Manager at Hutchinson Gozo, government assistance through the wage supplement “was crucial” in being able to keep all their workers.
He went on to say that the Gozitan company stopped receiving the wage supplement in August, as it began to experience an increase in labour demand from international markets.
