2 new Covid-19 cases and 21 recoveries, now 158 active cases

There were only 2 new Covid-19 case recorded in the past 24-hours from 2,454 swab tests – making a 0.08% positivity rate. There were 21 recoveries and no new deaths registered.
Health authorities said that active cases are now down to 158 in Malta and Gozo.
The total number of cases are 30,480 and there have been 29,905 recoveries and 417 deaths.
897,257 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic in Malta.
420,815 doses of the vaccine have been administered up until yesterday. 141,143 are now fully vaccinated, while 138,529 are partly vaccinated.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 12th of May, it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 30,458 and the number of deaths showing is 417. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is now 52.28. Malta remains in 27th position in the EU/EEA. Cyprus is at the top with 797.63.
The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.
The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures so that we can protect the most vulnerable in our society – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
