The Annual General Meeting of the Gozo University Group took place on Sunday via a zoom meeting for the second consecutive year due to the current Covid-19 situation.

This year’s meeting was also held earlier than in previous years due to an amendment to the statute.

During the meeting, which was chaired by Renée Formosa, an election of the new executive team members was held, and new amendments were introduced to the current statute.

The previous Executive Members gave a summary of their respective roles and experiences throughout the year.

In his report, former President, Mark Farrugia pointed out that although this year’s events were very limited due to this current pandemic, a great effort was still made to make the best out of the situation. It was explained that events and meetings were still held throughout the year which were successful, one of them being the GUG’s Car Treasure Hunt.

Farrugia’s time as President has come to an end, however taking his place is Owen Teuma who has worked closely with him for the past years. As a former Mcast Officer, Teuma has gained great confidence and experience and said that he is determined to lead GUG with great motivation.

The statute was amended through a unanimous vote among the present voters which led to a change in the roles of the Information Secretary and Financial Officer, the change being that VO submissions will now be taken care of by these two roles.

Samuel Buttigieg, Mark Farrugia, and Nicole Debrincat were appointed positions on the Vigilance Board. Since no other candidates were contesting for these positions within the executive, no elections were needed.

The GUG’s new executive is: Owen Teuma as President, Estelle Scicluna as Vice-President, Monique Camilleri as Administration Secretary, Danica Sultana as Information Secretary, Christine Sultana as Events Officer, Rebecca Grech as Social Media Officer, Michele Scicluna as Financial Officer, Daisy Grima as Public Relations Officer, Matthias Mercieca as Education Officer, Clara Scibberas as Social Policy Officer, Eric Grech as International Officer, Claire Gauci as Marketing Officer and Matthias Refalo as Mcast Officer.

On behalf of GUG, the executive thanked every candidate who showed interest in joining the organisation.
