The Opposition Spokesperson for Gozo Chris Said recently met with the President of Athletix A.C -Gozo, Mr. Adrian M Farrugia, during which the various challenges and realities that athletes in Gozo are facing were explained to him.
Dr Said stressed that “it is clear that there is a serious shortage of adequate facilities for athletics and and the sport of cycling in Gozo. This is hurting athletes, resulting in a lack of motivation. It is very important that the existing facilities are equipped for this sport.”
He went on to point out that “it is a fact that the new regulations on donations to NGOs are having a negative impact and are adversely affecting the work of organisations and volunteers.”
The also discussed how Gozo can create a new niche for sports tourism, “but this depends a lot on whether the level of sports facilities are adequate, as well as through strong sports associations,” said Dr Said.
