The Qala Local Council, represented by Mayor Paul Buttigieg, has appeared in Court to defend the refusal decision of the construction of a “rural room” in an ODZ pristine area in Qala close to Hondoq ir-Rummien.
“If the room is built, there will be a structure in an unspoilt area which can be seen from miles around, spoiling this area of high Landscape Value forever,” said the Mayor.” We will continue defending this unspoilt area”
Last month the Council had said that following rejection of the application for the reconstruction of a “pile of stones into a tool shed” close to Hondoq bay, “the Qala Local Council was satisfied that the area had been saved.”
An appeal by the developer on this decision was then rejected in March by the Environment and Planning Review Tribunal.
The application for a small “tool shed” with a skylight and a parapet and had been proposed on what is actually the Council said, a “site of a pile of stones on an ODZ untouched, pristine area outside Qala and which was visible from Comino.”
The developer is now trying yet another appeal to transform this small pile of stones into a building.
The application was originally turned down following applications by Qala Mayor Paul Buttigieg, through lawyer Dr Claire Bonello.

Keep up the good work Qala Council unlike the one in Ghajnsielem who never say or do a thing. Look at Comino they destroyed the blue lagoon and made parts of it for camping. Not a word.
