There were 6 new Covid-19 case recorded in the past 24-hours from 2,288 swab tests – making a 0.26% positivity rate. There were 5 recoveries and no new deaths registered.
Superintendent of Public Health Prof Charmaine Gauci, in her weekly update, has advised that there are currently 3 people in Hospital. In Mater Dei, there is 1 patient in ITU (down 3) 1 in IDU (down 3) and 1 in MDH other ward.
Details are not as yet available for the number of active cases in Gozo, they will be updated as soon as possible.
Prof Gauci said the seven-day moving average of cases was now 4, up 1 from last week. The positivity rate is 0.2, down from 0.1 last week.
She advised that the average age of new cases is 33.3.
Imported was again made up the largest number of cases over the last week, with 11, sporadic cases 9, followed by households with 1.
Prof Gauci explained that the World Health Organisation has said that the different variants should be referred to by code and not by the country’s name. It was explained that in Malta there is currently 47% of the B117 variant, 0.7% of B1351 variant, 3.7% of P1 variant and no cases of 1617 variant.
Vaccination rates – those aged 60+ 96%; 50-59 79%; 40-49 43%; 30-39 62% and 16-29 41%.
Active cases are now down to 66 in Malta and Gozo. The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 30,526 and there have been 30,041 recoveries and 419 deaths.
920,753 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic in Malta.
505,100 doses of the vaccine have been administered up until yesterday. 200,199 are now fully vaccinated, while 104,702 are partly vaccinated.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 27th of May, it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 30,506 and the number of deaths showing is 417. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is now 9.33, the lowest in the EU.
The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.
The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures so that we can protect the most vulnerable in our society – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
