As from tomorrow, Tuesday, the 1st of June at midnight, the public will be able to download the vaccine certificate digitally and online from the Government website certifikatvaccin.gov.mt The certificate will be available for download 15 days after the second vaccination.

This was announced by Prime Minister Robert Abela while addressing a news conference in the Auberge de Castille together with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne.

The Prime Minister explained that the vaccine certificate not only facilitates travel, but also for people to visit the elderly in care homes, including in their rooms.

This certificate will also be used during the organisation of certain activities that involve an increased risk of virus transmission.

The Prime Minister also warned that the pandemic is still with us and “we need to remain cautious.”

He went on to hail the success of the vaccine administration, with 210,000 people fully vaccinated so far.

Minister for Health Chris Fearne explained that 72% of the entire adult population is vaccinated with the first dose while 48% is fully vaccinated. He went on to say that currently only 3 people are being treated at Mater Dei Hospital in connection with Covid-19.

Dr Fearne explained that about 140,000 people will already be eligible to download the vaccine certificate from midnight.This can be done digitally and kept on a mobile or printed so that it can be read by officials. Each certificate will have its own unique barcode.

The Health Minister also said that Band Clubs – Kazini, will be able to open from the 6th of June instead of the 7th. This he said, “is an exception for the clubs only as there are some localities where the village festival falls on Sunday, the 6th.

The clubs would be able to open like restaurants, people must be seated and a limited number of people together. This will also apply to bars from the 7th of June.

The Deputy Prime Minister went on to talk about the progress being made in discussions with operators of cultural and entertainment activities among others.

He explained how in the near future they will be carried out under control and in the coming days it will be announced what activities can be carried out. However, he stressed that feast activities would not be included in this as they cannot be controlled.

Regarding the release of measures in recent weeks, Dr Fearne said that they had been successful as there was no increase in virus transmissions.

He highlighted that providing the number of positive cases remains low, then mask wearing for fully vaccinated people will no longer be mandatory from July.
