There was yet another fire near the coast in Gozo, this time on Friday, adjacent to a stretch of road leading up from Xwejni Bay on the outskirts of Marsalforn.
According to those who saw it, a large area of the surrounding environment was destroyed, with dumped roadside rubbish, including plastic also burning, causing dense acrid smoke.
A team from the Gozo Civil Protection unit were on site to get it under control. No information was available as to the origin of the fire.
Last month the Environment & Resources Authority appealed for responsibility and adequate care for natural habitats in Malta and Gozo, following a number of fires in protected areas, including one that caused extensive damage in Xaghra. There also another similar fire in Nadur.

Is somebody doing this purposely? There were several fires already beginning at il-Qortin, Marsalforn. The authorities should do more to catch any person who is doing this. This is sabotage???!!!
