Malta back on EU red list for travel issued weekly by the ECDC

Malta has been placed on the red list for travel information as of last Thursday, by the European Centre for Disease Control (ECDC), due to the spike in Covid-19 cases over the past days.
A country is placed on the red list if the 14-day cumulative Covid-19 case notification rate ranges from 75 to 200 and the test positivity rate of tests for Covid-19 infection is 4% or more, or if the 14-day cumulative Covid-19 case notification rate is more than 200 but less than 500.
On Sunday, 195 new Covid-19 cases were reported from 3,548 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 5.50%. There were 5 recoveries. 18 people are being treated in hospital, with 1 in ITU.
As of Sunday, the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo were up to 1,832.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control reports its figures every Thursday. As of the 15th of July, it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 31,240 and the number of deaths are 420. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 has shot up to 122.05 from 14.38 the previous, making us the 8th highest in the EU.
The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.
