217 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 4,091 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 5.30%. There were 3 recoveries. This takes the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo to over 2,000 as it rises to 2,177.

Health authorities have advised that from the 146 cases reported yesterday, 97 were in the age group of 10-39. The average age of yesterday’s cases was 28.

A total of 18 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, 1 of whom is in the ITU, authorities said.

Authorities also said that no new deaths were registered. The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 32,833 and there have been 30,236 recoveries and 420 deaths.

1,049,318 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.

The number of vaccines administered is now at 728,106 up until yesterday. 359,042 people are now fully vaccinated.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 15th of July, it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 31, 240 and the number of deaths showing is 420. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 has shot up to 122.05 from 14.38 last week, making us the 8th highest in the EU.

The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.

The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
