A request has been made by Qala Local Council to the Planning Appeals Tribunal to suspend the permit for the controversial Ta Kassja project which is partially sited in ODZ.
A spokesperson for the Council said, “it is unfair and unjust to allow the works to start while the appeal is pending, especially if the appeal extends over a long period of months if not years.”
The Local Council argued that, “if the authorities are serious about protecting Gozo, they should at least suspend the works until the appeal is decided.”
In April, Moviment Graffitti and Qala Local Council, filed a joint appeal with the the Environment and Planning Review Tribunal to revoke the permit to construct a 63-apartment block in Ta’ Kassja, Qala, which they said, “comes as the last stage of a massive residential project suffocating Qala.”
They stated that, “this comes as the last phase of a residential project of more than 160 apartments covering a swath of land larger than 3 football grounds in an area known Ta’ Ghar Boffa. The land taken by the development also protrudes significantly beyond the development zone boundaries.”
The Activist group and Local Council had said that “the decision to grant the permit is being appealed on the grounds that the last application to be approved forms part of a much larger project that was split up into 4 different stages over a 2-year period,.”
One asks “Is this progress?”. For the Developer defiantly it is – for the locals, it is a destruction and loss of the life and enjoyment they formerly enjoyed for past generations.

The normal citizens says “No, Not in My Name”. This is destruction of our daily life just for greed and more accumulations of monies.
The developer will then rake the monies but leaves the destruction behind for the local residents.
Is this fair? Definitely not. But who cares, by that time the rich will get richer but the Villagers/Inhabitants will get poorer.
All of this depends on the Government finally as the Planning Authority is under the Government Control.
So I add my name with the Qala Residents in a plea to the Government “Please stop this destruction of Gozo once and for All”.
All of Gozo`s mayors should copy what Qala mayor is doing. Gozo is being ruined forever

Stop this Developers and give them a cleaning Job – on and off shore !!!
