59 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 3,526 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 1.67%.
Authorities said that during the last 24 hours, a 77-year old man and a 63-year old woman have passed away at Mater Dei Hospital while Covid-19 positive.
A total of 32 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, down from 33 yesterday. 4 of the 32 patients are in the ITU.
There have been 170 recoveries, taking the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo down to 945. The average age of yesterday’s 71 cases was 43.
The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 34,846 and there have been 33,079 recoveries and 426 deaths.
1,117,196 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.
The number of vaccines administered is now at 774,250 up until yesterday. 395,537 people are now fully vaccinated.
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 5th of August it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 34,439 and the number of deaths showing is 423. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is down to 354.28 from 490.12 in the previous week. Malta is now the 8th highest in the EU.
The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.
The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
