Number of new appointments announced within the Gozo Diocese

A number of new appointments have been announced by the Diocese of Gozo, which includes three new parish priests.
The Gozo Diocese said that these changes are made “with the aim of assisting the People of God gathered in the Diocese of Gozo in the best possible way according to current needs and exigencies.”
Three parish communities will have new Pastors at the beginning of the Pastoral Year 2021-2022:
Can. Anton Refalo Rapa (from Xaghra) – appointed Parish Priest of St. Paul’s Shipwreck, Munxar
Rev. Dominic M. Sultana (from Xaghra) – appointed Parish Priest of Christ the Saviour, Ghasri
Mons. Edward Xuereb (from Xewkija) – appointed Archpriest of the Parish of the Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph, Qala.
In the work within the Diocesan Curia:
Mons. Eddie Zammit (from Xewkija) – appointed Chancellor
Can. Joseph Zammit (from St George, Victoria) – appointed Judicial Vicar of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal.
Due to pastoral demands, the pastoral mission has begun or will begin in these months as Rectors:
Rev. Joseph Bajada (from Xaghra) – appointed Rector of the Community of Jesus of Nazareth, Xaghra;
Rev. Ignatius Borg (from Xaghra) – appointed Rector of the Community of the Good Shepherd, Victoria, and Director of the residence for priests within the same Pastoral Centre;
Rev. Joseph Farrugia (from Gharb) – appointed Rector of the Community and John Paul II Institute for the Family, Victoria;
Can. Noel Saliba (from Zebbug) – appointed Rector of the Community of Saint Lucia;
Mons. Eddie Zammit (from Xewkija) – appointed Rector of the Church of Our Lady of Pompeii (Dominican Sisters), Victoria.
Other priests who will be giving their help in some parishes, along with other tasks
are:
Can. Geoffrey George Attard (from St George, Victoria) – appointed Collaborator in Parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Fontana;
Rev. Joseph Attard (from Zebbug) – appointed Parish Vicar in the Parish of the Assumption, in the Cathedral, Victoria, as well as the Choir Chaplain and Ceremony Cathedral Chapter;
Rev. Krystof Buttigieg (from Qala) – appointed Parish Vicar in the Parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Zebbug, as well as assisting in the Catechetical Office in the Diocesan Curia;
Rev. Noel Debono (from Nadur) – appointed Collaborator in the Parish of St. Paul Shipwreck, Munxar, as well as Director of the Institute for Pastoral Ministry (IPM);
Rev. Frankie Mallia (from Zebbug) – appointed Collaborator in the Parish of the Assumption, the Cathedral, Victoria, as well as Parish Priest of the Cathedral Chapter Choir;
Rev. Michael Mifsud (from Gharb) – appointed Parish Vicar in the Parish of the Virgin Mary, Xaghra;
Rev. Michael Said (from Nadur) – appointed Parish Vicar in the Parish of the Immaculate Immaculate Conception and St. Joseph, Qala;
Can. Edward Vella (from Gharb) – appointed Collaborator at the National Sanctuary of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu, Gharb, in addition to the pastoral work he is already carrying out in the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and St. Gregory, Kercem.
In pastoral work as Spiritual Directors in schools:
Can. Alex Cauchi (from Gharb) and Fr Manwel Cutajar (from San Lawrenz) – in all primary schools in Gozo;
Rev. Vincent Pavia (from the Cathedral, Victoria) – on the MCAST Campus, Ghajnsielem.
The Diocese of Gozo explained that these new ministries will enter into force on Tuesday, the 14th of September 2021, Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
“All communities are encouraged to pray during these weeks both in the parishes and in the families for these brethren,” the Diocese said.
