86 new Covid-19 cases and 2 deaths reported, 32 in hospital, with 2 in ITU86 new Covid-19 cases have been found overnight from the 3,496 swab tests taken, making a positivity rate of 2.46%.

Authorities said that during the last 24 hours, a 96-year old woman and a 79-year old man have passed away while Covid-19 positive.

A total of 32 Covid positive patients are currently being treated at Mater Dei Hospital, down from 37 yesterday. 2 of these patients are in the ITU, up from 1 yesterday.

There have been 56 recoveries overnight, taking the number of active cases in Malta and Gozo up to 643.

The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic in Malta is 35,602 and there have been 34,128 recoveries and 435 deaths.

1,152,894 swab tests have been taken since the start of the pandemic.

The number of vaccines administered is now at 788,202 up until yesterday, meaning that the number of fully vaccinated people has now reached 407,154.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has advised that it will be reporting figures on a weekly basis – every Thursday. As of the 19th of August it shows that the number of cases recorded for Malta is at 35,380 and the number of deaths showing is 431. The 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is down to 182.87.

The ECDC said that the above data are collected between Monday and Wednesday for the proceeding week.

The Ministry of Health called on the public to continue to follow the preventive measures – This includes wearing of masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
