A Musical Evening has been held at Kercem Parish Church to commemorate Monsignor Girgor Grech, who was from Kercem.

Grech was the Liturgical Master of Ceremonies during Bishop Nikol Cauchi and Pope John Paul II’s visit to Gozo in May 1990.

This commemorative evening event was organised by the JP2 Foundation on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Polish Prelate and the 30th anniversary of his visit to the Maltese islands.

Those present for the concert were the Vicar General of the Diocese Mons Tarcisio Camilleri, together with the Parish Priest Kan Brian Mejlak and members of the Clergy, including Mons Karm Borg, the village historian. The President of the Band St. Gregory, Dr. Joshua Grech and members of the Committee, as well as relatives of Fr Gregory including his sister Maria Fiteni.

The Cordia Trio performed various works by well-known composers such as Jeremiah Clarke, Pachelbel, Handel, Vivaldi, Bach, Mozart, Jenkins, Charpentier and others. ‘Ave Verum,’ ‘Amazing Grace,’ ‘Te Deum’, ‘Domine Deus,’ ‘Laudate Dominum,’ ‘The Holy City,’ ‘Come unto him’ ‘Hornpipe in D,’ with the participation of soprano Giorgina Gauci.

Chev. Joe M. Attard read a poem for the occasion dedicated to Fr. Gregory.
