The Malta Police Union has said that additional directives have been issued to members of the Force as part of an industrial dispute on traffic management “which still remains unresolved.”

In a statement the union said that, “as the matter remains unresolved, following several internal meetings and after that our request to continue with the mediation process remains unattended, the union has no choice but to issue increase its directives, which are applicable to all members of the Police Force.”

Apart from the directive issued on Sunday 26th of September , where all members of the Force performing Supplementary Duties (extra duty/overtime) were requested to wear the (1) Police Issued T-Shirt, (2) Police Baseball Cap and (3) Police ID tag for Identification, the union said that “the following are being added as from 6am tomorrow, Sunday, the 3rd October; 4) Non-uniformed Police Officers are to wear blue jeans to report to their normal daily duties. 5) Police vehicles exterior is not to be washed.”

The Malta Police Union stated that it “considers this service as an opportunity for Police officers to gain extra income during their off duties. This service is paid by the person/entity requesting the service and is only granted when a Police Officer is available at that date and time requested.”

It added that “refusing this service in toto does not make any sense and the Administration of the Force does not know for when this service is being requested.”
