36,000 students are now back in government schools for the start of the new school year. The Education Ministry said that those at government schools started last Wednesday, while today Kinder I students entered for their first day of school.
This year there are 5,981 attending Kindergarten classes, 15,827 in primary school classes, 12,143 in secondary and 1,987 post-secondary. The number of students in primary school classes is higher than other years because there were many more student registrations for these classes, the Ministry said.
Students are distributed in 106 schools and educational centres, with a total of 7,071 between heads of schools, educators, LSEs, KGEs and administrative staff caring for these students.
“With all the protocols issued by the health authorities in place and all the schools certified by assessors who have seen that every school has everything that is required by these protocols, we are seeing the determination and commitment of educators for our children to continue to receive their education where best they can – in our schools,” said Education Minister Justyne Caruana.
Also this month, the reform of the Education Law, which was launched in September and passed unanimously by Parliament in 2019, came into force. The Minister explained that the reform that has taken place in this law provides for improvements on the previous law and also introduces new concepts that all have an ultimate goal – “strengthening the education that is given to our children.”
