The announcement that the Gozo Heliport is be modernised and airstrip extended to allow for the possible reintroduction of an airlink between Malta and Gozo, has been noted by the Gozo University Group.
In a statement, the GUG said that the ”fast ferry service has proved to be quite advantageous to Gozitans who commute on a regular basis, and believes that such a service will similarly be beneficial to many students.”
GUG also noted that Minister Camilleri had said that the same operational model employed for the fast ferry service will be used for the introduction of an airlink service.
Speaking during the budget debate on Monday, GUG said that the Minister emphasised that ”work will be held within the parameters already in existence and that no agricultural land will be used.”
GUG went on to say that the Gozo Minister said that this investment is ”not only being put forward to improve connectivity between Malta and Gozo, but it could also possibly attract flight schools to train young pilots as well as firms involved in the production and testing of drones.”
