The Italian Ministry for Education sponsored a group of 45 teachers for a 5-day training course in Gozo. The group are also members of Club Alpino Italiano – an Italian Hiking Club.

Their stay in Gozo, which took place during the first week of November, was coordinated voluntarily by the Gozo Office of the College for the Visual and Performing Arts – Mikiel Anton Vassalli College (MAVC).

Head of College Network Victor Galea, said that this was an opportunity for M.A.V. College to collaborate with other Gozitan entities such as the Cultural Heritage and Eco-Gozo Directorates within the Ministry for Gozo as well as the Heritage Malta – Gozo Office and the Activity Teachers from Gozo College.

He explained that, ”together we designed a most interesting 5-day training programme on the concepts of Outdoor and Adventure Education and Sustainability – where learning takes place outside the classroom through activities this time taking place around Gozo and Comino.”The guests obtained information about the Local Education System, the Cultures which shaped the local citizens, studies on Gozo’s flora, and information about the Directorate of Eco-Gozo and its initiatives.

Apart of these presentations, the group also had the opportunity to go on several cultural visits took place such as the Cittadella and Ggantija Temples. There was also a hike along the North East coast and the South West coast of Gozo (pictured), with the highlight being a trekking adventure to Comino organised by the Gozo College Activity Teachers.

At the end of the course, the Club Alpino Group produced a short but effective video clip in order to disseminate their impressions about the Island of Gozo.
