On Friday, the 19th of June 2009, youths from the Leone Band of Victoria and the Sliema Band will amass to perform a joint musical concert as part of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart feast in Sliema.

This joint concert is open to youth and up-and-coming bandsmen. It is another initiative by the two mother bands to give space to fresh talent, give it a high-quality platform enabling it to perform to the general public and enjoy the musical pastime, and motivate more professional training and in-depth musical tuition.

This concert will be lead by the two assistant conductors of the Leone and Sliema bands – Joseph Debrincat and Lesley Tabone.

The concert will contain an array of marches, pop, songs, musicals, classics and popular Italian music. Pieces to be performed amongst others, are ‘One Moment in Time’, ‘O Surdato Nnamurato’ and ‘Vivo Per Lei’ alongside other number from ‘Cats,’ ‘Phantom of the Opera,’ ‘James Bond’ and ‘Queen.’

Sliema singers Jessica Cachia, Vittorio Gauci, Marie Claire Attard Bason and Marie Claire Gatt will join the band in some sung numbers.

The Joint Concert by the Leone and Sliema Bands will be held at the Culture Performance Hall in Palazzo Sliema, starting at 8.30pm. Entrance is free of charge.

A repeat performance will be held in Gozo during the Santa Marija 15-day festivities in August.
