APS Bank is pleased to announce that its 2009 Flagship Concert will be held on Monday, October the 12th, at St. John’s Co-Cathedral with the co-operation of the Metropolitan Cathedral Chapter and the St. John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation.

The concert will propose the world premiere of Albert Pace’s composition Ghanjiet ta’ Bniedem Solitarju (Songs of a lonely man), the prize-winning entry in the APS Bank 2007 Open Competition.

The work, by one of the most gifted of contemporary Maltese composers, is a song cycle setting 7 poems (in Maltese) by Ruzar Briffa, and is scored for tenor, baritone, mixed choir and chamber orchestra. The international adjudicators were very enthusiastic about the work, describing it as “sensitive and distinguished” with “a logical sequence of events, a well-defined style, economy of means, enlightened and inspired use of timbre,” and “one of the best scores of the first decade of this third millennium”.

Performing it will be tenor Charles Vincenti, bass baritone Albert Buttigieg, Kor Mirabitur under Simone Attard, the Junge Philharmonie Brandenburg of Berlin, with Hans-Jürgen Nagel conducting.

This special concert forms part of the APS Bank’s celebrations to mark the opening of its new operational centre in Swatar.
