The Malta Union for Midwives and Nurses (MUMN) has requested an urgent meeting with the Health Ministry over the changes to the quarantine rules.

The MUMN said that the meeting would be to bring attention to ”the problems which employees are going to face regarding the different quarantine days issued to persons (and their children) according to their boosters.”

It questioned, ”how parents who have the third dose and were put on quarantine due to their 5-year old child being positive return to work after 10 days whilst abandoning their child at home because they must stay in quarantine for 14 days?”

The union argued that children aged under 5 weren’t offered a vaccine or the booster. It also pointed out that not all children are vaccinated, even among those who are aged 5 to 8 years. It asked, ”who will stay at home with these young children who have to remain in quarantine?”

The MUMN also stressed that there was confusion as to what was the correct way of taking quarantine leave.

The union concluded by saying that ”these issues should be addressed as there will be requests for further directives since children who were not vaccinated or partially vaccinated cannot be left at home unattended.”
