The European Parliament has announced with great sorrow the passing of President David Sassoli.
”Our deepest condolences are with his family and all who had the pleasure of working with him and knowing him. Our flags have been lowered in his honour,” it said.
The European Parliament in Malta, in a statement on social media said, ”our President, David Sassoli, passed away last night.”
An Italian journalist who rose to the ranks of MEP in 2009 and was later elected to head the hemicycle of representatives from all over Europe.
”He will be remembered for his work to unite all political fronts and his commitment to press freedom.
”Thank you for your service. Rest in peace,” the European Parliament in Malta said.
