The Qala Local Council has filed another appeal against a development which it said, extends into ODZ land. The appeal is due to be heard on the 25th of January.
The application for the location of Lemhet il-Kmiemem, Triq il-Kuncizzjoni, is by Karkanja Developments is to demolish a dilapidated structure and construct 9 garages at lower basement, 1 garage at upper basement, 1 at ground floor level and 2 duplex apartments, 4 apartments and 2 penthouses including the excavation and construction of 2 pools. The application was approved unanimously on the 30th of November, 3-0.
Qala Mayor Paul Buttigieg argued that ”despite the fact that there is no justification for taking up land in ODZ, despite the fact that both the ERA and the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage objected to the extension into ODZ and despite the fact that the volume of the development is not in keeping with the context of the area, the Planning Authority still approved it.
”The Qala Local Council will continue doing all it can to reverse decisions such as these which are turning Qala and Gozo into a built-up nightmare,” said Mayor Paul Buttigieg.
