The Qala Local Council has submitted final submissions last Tuesday in the appeal on plans for a marina and tourist complex at Hondoq ir-Rummien in Gozo, which the developer – Gozo Prestige – had filed against the refusal.

Mayor Paul Buttigieg also reiterated his call for the authorities to resolve the situation once and for all in favour of the people and those who love Hondoq.

“Declare Hondoq Public domain and change the Local Plans,” he said ” Give us peace of mind that preservation of this gem is not temporary but permanent. The people deserve it.”This follows 20 years of legal battles and campaigning by the Council to protect Hondoq for the public after the developer proposed a yacht marina and a tourist village – a development which would ruin Hondoq forever.

The Council pointed out that every referendum and social impact assessment held showed an overwhelming majority against the development.
