Europe Day is a special event for all EUROPE DIRECT centres. Two main activities were organised last Friday by EUROPE DIRECT Gozo, to mark this important day.
The first activity consisted of a business breakfast dedicated to Gozitan stakeholders on the Next Generation EU, and more specifically on the Recovery and Resilience Facility. Daniel Borg (EUROPE DIRECT Gozo) spoke about the importance of the European Union during this time of crisis.
It was explained that the work undertaken by the European Union during these times helped bring to the fore the values which are most dear to the European Union, first and foremost the value of solidarity.
The event was addressed by Therese Zahra, acting head of the European Commission Representation in Malta, Mario Sammut, Head of the European Parliament Liaison Office, and Dr Chris Bonnett, Parliamentary Secretary, responsible for EU Funds.
Presentations were also delivered from representatives of the European Commission as well as from the Maltese Government.
The presentations focused on the Recovery and Resilience Plan at an EU and national level. A discussion panel discussed the plan both at a national and a local level, with a special emphasis on its impact on the island of Gozo.
In the evening a discussion on the impact of climate change in the community, with the participation of youth was also held. This event was held in collaboration with the Gozo Regional Development Authority, and Agenzija Zghazagh.
The youth involved, whose background was from the voluntary sector, or who through their professional activities work in areas related to sustainability, discussed the impact of climate change in the community and the concrete actions that can be undertaken in this regard.
All the panelists emphasised the importance of youth to bring to the fore this important subject for the consideration of governments all around the world.
During this initiative the 4th edition of the Youth4Entrepreneurship Gozo was also launched. This is an important appointment in the calendar of EUROPE DIRECT Gozo with the final event due to be held on Friday, the 11th of November.
This year’s event will focus on business ideas targeted towards reducing the impact of climate change. A number of sessions, with the scope of assisting youth in submitting their idea, will be held in the coming months.
