Eight local councils, including two in Gozo, have benefited from just over €400,000 in funding between them, from the ‘Capital Projects – Accessibility and Mobility’ scheme, through the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Councils.

The local councils that are benefiting from these funds in Gozo are the Ghajnsielem Local Council, which will install bollards for more security and walking access, and Gharb Local Council, which will continue to facilitate services in the streets and squares.

In Malta, the six councils are, Attard, St Julian’s, Valletta, Sengla, Santa Lucia and Rabat.

Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli explained that “this scheme was launched to help local councils to ensure the same quality of life for all in their respective communities and be in a position to provide a level playing field for all residents. The faculty of equal opportunities is a very important indicator for the level of social development of the country.”

The respective mayors of the eight local councils as well as representatives of the Local Government Directorate were present for the presentation.
