77 students receive awards from the Institute for Pastoral Ministry Gozo

The Annual General Meeting has been held for the Institute for Pastoral Ministry (IPM) in the Diocese of Gozo, which is an educational institution set up by the Diocese.

During the AGM certificates were awarded to 77 students who attended the courses during this year. The courses offered were: Award in Safeguarding of Minors, Award in Liturgical Formation, and Award in Inclusion of Vulnerable People in the Community.

Speaking at the meeting, Fr Noel Debono, Director of IPM, explained the main purpose of the Institute, which is to offer pastoral formation to all members of the Diocese in order to offer a more professional service in their communities and groups.

He spoke about the courses offered this year and thanked those who led them or had helped, and closed by talking about the courses that that are being looked at for this year.

The Bishop of Gozo Anton Teuma also delivered a short message, where he spoke about the joy at seeing these students who have completed their courses, to the delight of their parents who have been watching their children continue to study.

He suggested the need to be careful and listen to the needs of society when planning courses, and to address these current needs. He mentioned among others the realities of social media and family, which, he said, is a topic close to his heart.

A speech was also given by a student representative, David Grech, a member of the Scouts who had completed the Safeguarding Course.

He stressed how much such a course helps to create knowledge of how hazardous situations can be avoided and how to detect certain signs at an earlier stage.

During the AGM, which was held at the Nadur Parish Centre, the new official website was launched with the services provided by the Institute, www.ipm.edu.mt, so that prospective students will be able to get information about new courses, apply online and eventually they can also access academic material.
