Volunteers needed for the English Speaking Union - Gozo BranchVolunteers are needed by the English Speaking Union – Gozo Branch to assist them in their work on the island.

The ESU Gozo branch was established in 2010 and said that their primary aim is to strengthen the use of the English language in Gozo via a close and successful working relationship with Gozitan schools and education authorities.

The organisation said that there is no need for any qualification beyond fluency in English; all necessary materials are provided and new recruits are initially placed with experienced volunteers to gain practical experience.

They added that all the volunteers find the work very rewarding and many of them have become involved in all three aspects of the ESU public speaking and debating activities (in schools, the ESU Public Speaking Competition and the Summer School) “but – and it is an important but – we are volunteers and no-one’s commitment goes further than what they can readily fit into their life in Gozo.”

However, if working with young people is not your thing, the ESU Gozo are also in urgent need of administrative support; as committee secretary, to help manage the Public Speaking Competition and in particular as admin for the Summer School.

So, would you like to contribute to the Gozitan community? Do you enjoy interacting with young people? If so, or if your would like to know more, please email the ESU Gozo on esuchair@igozo.com
